State law requires that all dogs are licensed.
Wisconsin Statute 174.05, requires that the owner of a dog more than five months of age on January 1 of any year, or five months of age within the license year, shall annually, or on or before the date the dog becomes five months of age, pay the dog license tax and obtain a license.

  • Village of Stratford residents should obtain Dog Licenses at the Municipal Building during regular business hours.
  • Proof of rabies vaccination must be provided in order to purchase the dog license.
  • License fees are $20 for an adult male or female, and $10 if the dog is neutered or spayed.
  • Dogs must be licensed each calendar year prior to April 1st to avoid a $30 late fee.
  • Failure to license your dog(s) will result in a Village Ordinance Citation -- a minimum fine of $124 per dog.
  • The Village does allow pitbulls and pit bull varieties on a permit basis only.  Please contact the Village Clerk's office or Police Department for the application and additional information.  Please view ordinance 194-6(A)8 for reference.
