Raising of Backyard Chickens

Does your pet help you make breakfast?

Stratford has joined a growing number of American communities that allow the raising of backyard chickens!  They’re friendly and easy to care for, not to mention their egg production.

The new ordinance allows property owners to raise up to four hens in a backyard coop and enclosure.  Roosters are prohibited.  See the full ordinance for complete guidelines.

Although Stratford now allows it, your neighbors may not be ready to live next door to chickens.  Anyone interested in raising chickens is required to notify all abutting neighbors.  An open and constructive dialog between neighbors will ensure a happy flock and community.
